I used to joke with one of my friends that I’d have to take her with me to Joann’s or even Kohl’s so I could use her for the Senior Citizen discount, LOL. Well I guess they don’t call it that anymore – but the number still applies – 55 and older!! Lordy – I got this email today and it just hit me – IT’S ME and actually has been for a few years, LOL. Thanks anyway Pat – I guess I can go on my own!!!

Fermentation has begun!
Yahooooo! Maurene is babysitting my Harvest Cab 2017 and she sent me this video, LOL. She has all the wine making equipment so everything’s at her house in her laundry room. She’s wrapped that blanket around the bucket to insure it stays around 75 degrees. We added the yeast the same day we started the batch. The yeast is what induces fermentation which makes it percolate and during the fermentation process the gases are released through that bubble thing on the top. It will continue to perculate for a couple of weeks. Then we’ll add a few more goodies, pour it into the “Carboy” and let it ferment a bit longer before we bottle it. Can you hear it? It’s like a little heart beat, LOL. The only thing missing for you is the aroma 😉
City Girl Farms Makes WINE!
Woohoo! I’ve been hoping to do this for about a year. My friend/co-worker Maurene has been making her own wine for a couple of years now. I think she’s on her 5th batch. She starts from a wine juice kit, does the whole fermentation thing and then bottles it herself. I’ve been the recipient of a few bottles and it is very yummy! I bought my kit online through “Maker Vintner” and I chose a Cabernet Sauvignon. She’s helping/teaching me how to do it and last night we started my batch. This is sooooo fun and not difficult – a little stressful because you don’t want to mess it up but Maurene’s a pro at it. I’m making this batch for my 2nd Annual Harvest Party in the fall. The batch will produce about 30 bottles of wine, so I’ll even be able to use some for Christmas gifts. I’m considering buying the equipment to do it myself – we’ll see how this goes, lol. The good news is IF I do purchase the equipment and start doing it on my own I have a cellar in my barn that I can store it in. The cellar is under the floor where I park my car and it’s all concrete so it would really be conducive to storing wine. I need to investigate this a bit further though – in the meantime – here we go with my FIRST batch – City Girl Farms Harvest Cab 2017!! Here’s the link to “Maker Vintner”:
Shower Progress
My shower is almost done!! I love my 4×8 subway tiles and my mosaic. I bought the tiles from Lowes and the mosaic tile trim from Home Depot. The grout color I used is Delorean Gray also from Home Depot and it dries a little lighter than the pic. The pic is the grout BEFORE it’s cleaned. I’m hoping to get my shower fixture on Friday after work, then I’ll have some finished pics. Besides the obvious fact of the shower being completed – I’ll finally be able to make an appointment for my final, final inspection!! I haven’t been able to get my permit cleared until the shower was functioning. Sooooo close!

Somebody Got A Welder for Christmas
Tara bought Jason a welder for Christmas. He made these lamps and liquor dispenser!! The first one turns on/off with the valve handle on the right. The “Chain Lamp” has a sensor – so you can touch anywhere on the chain and it will turn on, then touch again for brighter, then again for brightest – like a 3 way bulb! The third one is a liquor dispenser that turns on/off with the valve as well. Jason continues to blow my mind with his creativity!!! He and Tara (with all her talents) are going to start selling their creations on ETSY. Stay tuned for more!
Progress in the Mistress Bath
Yes! Finally, my shower is getting tiled – yahoo!! This is Bob – Bob is a coworker and friend who knows how to do pretty much anything. He said he’d help me for a nominal fee as look as I helped – so I’m the tile assistant, cutting, cleaning, handing him tools. I went with simple subway tile but chose to use 4″x8″ instead of the classic 3″x6″ and added a row of mosaic. I love how clean and simple it looks. I didn’t want to do anything to fancy because my house was built in 1958. The grout color I chose is a medium gray – can’t wait for it to be done!
100+ Year Old Quilt
Wow! What a blessing. My cousins in California, Dennis & Linda, contacted me about this quilt. It’s over 100 years old and it belonged to my Aunt Catherine (Dennis’ mom and one of my mom’s sisters). My great-grandmother Nettie, whom I never met, made the quilt top – stitched it by hand and my Aunt Catherine quilted the top to the back by hand. My cousin, Linda added the “History Heart Patch” to the back of the quilt. She told me it’s called a “Sampler Quilt” because all the squares are different, there’s not a pattern. I just love it! My great-grandmother grew up on a farm in Illinois – I think it’s cool that Nettie started this quilt in a little farmhouse in Illinois over 100 years ago and it has now ended up at her great-granddaughter’s farmhouse! 😉
Thank you Linda & Dennis for this very special gift!
Bring it!
As of December 19, 2016, I’ve officially been in my farmhouse 2 years!! However, that means I’m going on my 3rd winter of snow shoveling the “back forty” by hand. We recently had a couple of snow storms that brought in about 6-8″ of snow – both times. During the last one I decided enough was enough!! I had some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket, so after doing some investigating and getting guy opinions I decided to purchase a “snow blower”. I got this “SnowJoe” from Home Depot and it had some great reviews. It’s a hybrid which means I can use the re-chargeable battery or plug it in, I love options, and it has an LED light and a 180 degree auto-rotate chute that rotates instantly with the push of a switch. I just had to put a couple things together, charge the battery and I’m ready to go. We’re expecting a bit of snow tomorrow and then again on Sunday – so bring it, LOL, not like the recent California snow bring it – more like another 6-8″ bring it!! 😉
