Saying Goodbye . . .

Standard

GloriaSaying goodbye is never an easy thing to do no matter what the circumstances may be. My very, dear, sweet, friend, Gloria Sauer Ballard passed away yesterday, wayyy too young. It’s hard to wrap your head around something like this, even when you know it’s coming. She has been battling stomach cancer for almost a year now.  I can still remember getting that phone call last March that she was sick.  She is the kindest soul that you’d ever want to meet.

We became friends back in high school and have remained friends after all these years. What great “girlfriend” memories I have with her, concerts, boyfriends, cheerleading, football games and her & I drumming on the back of the couch at Steve’s house to “Fleetwood Mac” – LOL those were the days!  She is one of those friends that no matter how far away you lived or how much time passed since you saw her last, whenever you got together it always felt like you JUST saw her.

With all she had going on she still took the time to send me a birthday card last October.  When I called to thank her she just said “ahhhhhh sweetie of course” (always thinking of others). Gloria was a special soul and lived her life full of tenderness, strength and grace.

Dear Gloria – I will surely miss you and your sweet ways.  You have been a friend that I will always cherish and think of often.  I will do my best to keep in touch with your dear daughters.  Until we see each other again and we will, I love you!  Toodles

Twilight – Confessions

Standard

220px-Twilight_(2008_film)_posterYes, I may lose some of you after you read this, but the truth is I am a “Twilight” fan.  One of my girlfriends & I finally had a chance to go to the movies this weekend and we saw the last installment of the Twilight series called “Breaking Dawn”. “Twilight” is a series of books written by Stephanie Meyer.  Women of all ages just went bonkers over the books and hence the movies starting coming out in 2008. When “Twilight”, was released on DVD March 2009 it became the most purchased DVD of the year.

My daughter became addicted to these books and the drama between Edward, Bella & Jacob.  When the first movie came out Amie had seen it SEVERAL times and she convinced me to go see it with her one more time.  I hadn’t seen the movie yet or read any of the books but was curious as to what all the fuss was about.  Well I was hooked.   Who doesn’t love an epic love story between a human (Bella Swan) and a vampire (Edward Cullen) – LOL.  I grew up watching “Dark Shadows” (yes I’m that old) when I was a kid, which was nothing like this story.   I was totally sucked in (get it -LOL) to the story line and the special effects.

The love story between Bella & Edward was typical – girl falls in love with the bad boy – the guy no one likes – but he treats her with respect, tenderness and wants to protect her . . .  what girl doesn’t want that??? And did I mention Edward “sparkles”?? If he is out in the sunlight his skin sparkles like glitter!! Now, for a girl who loves bling (me) can you blame me for getting hooked on the vampire??? LOL

I’m READYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I picked up my jar at Hobby Lobby.  Decided to go with the 64 oz. wide mouth mason jar, and it’s pretty big . . . feeling optimistic about 2013 and the wide mouth allows me to stick my hand in there to dig out alllllll of my blessings at the end of the year.  That’s the good thing about the new year, there’s always a renewed sense of optimism. So my jar is ready!!!!! Is yours???

Christmas & the New Year

Standard

Snow Tree

Christmas is upon us so that means a New Year is just around the corner.  It’s that time of year when we take time to appreciate those around us, family and friends.  I can’t help but think about the families this year who have lost loved ones, especially those in Connecticut.  This Christmas is going to be unbelievably hard for them and I just can’t even imagine how hard.

As this year ends and a new one begins there is a sense of hope in me.  I am a Christian and I don’t know how people deal with what life can throw at us without knowing Jesus.  When I put my life in His hands 18 years ago He transformed me, one day at a time.   I am a better person, not a perfect person, just a better person.  I’m still a work in progress. Having Jesus in my life has given me a hope I’ve not known before.  I always use to be a “but what if” person . . . now I’m a “whatever” person because no matter what happens I don’t walk this path alone.

Jesus says, “I will never leave you or forsake you” and I believe it.  He has shown me in all of my circumstances especially the tougher times that He is there for me.  As we celebrate Christmas and the New Year, my hope would be that if you don’t know Jesus that you would get to know Him.  Life can be hard sometimes but you don’t have to walk it alone. Thank you all for following my blog this past year and for your fun & encouraging comments! I pray that this season brings you peace and joy.

Merry Christmas & a Very Happy New Year!

Had the girls over Friday for “Girl’s Night” at my house.  Everyone brought something to share and it’s always a great time to try out new recipes. I made the cupcakes: regular white cake box – I like to add almond extract but I was out soooo I added some Amaretto. For the frosting I used cream cheese/marshmallow creme & vanilla – here is the link:  http://tastykitchen.com/recipes/desserts/marshmallow-cream-cheese-frosting/. Pat brought the pinwheels made with Spinach Tortillas & Cran-raisins – yum, here’s that link: http://www.food.com/recipe/simple-delicious-cranberry-cream-cheese-pinwheels-273515 . . . and Mia brought the wayyyy yummy Spicy Cranberry Dip w/Cream Cheese (kinda thinkin’ cream cheese was the theme here – LOL) and here is the link for that one: http://mysisterskitchen2009.blogspot.com/2012/01/spicy-cranberry-cream-cheese-dip.html. We found all the recipes on Pinterest.

I’d recommend any of these recipes, there were all very good.  It’s always fun to make time for your friends . . . a good time was had by all! Thanks Mia, Donna, Maurene, Pat & Sharon!

what it needed to be.

Christmas Ideas . . . . #5

Occasionally I like to change up the color theme on my tree. This year I decided to try brown & silver. I really love the brown, it’s a bit more earthy but adding the brown glitter ornaments feeds my “bling” addiction (ornaments 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby) . Love my bling . . . I also love lanterns. I  found this lantern at Hobby Lobby and got the idea about making those canvas pics from Pinterest . . . alsooooo love Pinterest. Canvas tutorial coming . . . I have a few cattle pics I took earlier this year and want to put them on canvas.  I’m thinking about redoing my bedroom in “Country Chic” . . . we’ll see how that works out, LOL.
