Mad Hatter Tea Party – Food

Everyone loved the food.  I’m attaching the links for the salad and the cucumber sandwiches.  I found the salad recipe and the idea for the cheese & fruit toothpicks (in the corner of “strawberry” pic) on Pinterest.  I don’t have a pic of the cheese & fruit toothpicks, but we cut cheese in cubes and attached a blueberry, raspberry or blackberry on top of each cheese cube with a fancy toothpick – super simple and very yummy (try white cheddar and a blueberry!).  One of my friends, Maurene, had the recipe for the cucumber sandwiches which are crazy good.  Here is the link for the Broccoli, Grape, Pasta Salad (with toasted pecans & bacon!): http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/broccoli-grape-pasta-salad . . . . here is the recipe for the cucumber sandwiches (scroll down to “Best Cucumber Sandwiches”): http://www.thepauperedchef.com/2006/02/cucumber_sandwi.html

Enjoy!

I loveeeee Olivia at “Elevate Cake”!!!  My daughter-in-law suggested I try her so she sent me her link. She actually lives about a mile from me.  Olivia and I had several conversations via email.  She was extremely helpful in getting my vision across.  I seriously could NOT have been more pleased with the results!!!!  The cake was EXACTLY what I wanted and the cupcakes were insanely gorgeous!!!  Every cupcake was totally different and the top hat was covered in buttercream, not fondant.  I told her Amie’s favorite cake, since she was little, was Funfetti – so we did the top hat in Funfetti and the cupcakes were lemon w/lemon curd.  Amie loved it and the cakes were divine.  Be sure to check out her website: http://www.elevatecake.com/

Thanks Olivia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mad Hatter Tea Party!!

I hosted my daughter’s Bridal Shower this weekend and she asked for a “Mad Hatter Tea Party”.  We had a blast.  I’ll be sharing pics, recipes and contacts for the flowers & cake.  It was exactly what I’d hope it would be and Amie loved it!! Great fun with family & friends!  Today I’ll share the florist I used for the arrangements in my tea pots. Her name is Jennie and she did a fabulous job on the flowers!  Bright and gorgeous!  I totally recommend her for any flowers you may need.  Her business is “Sugar n’ Stems” and you can contact her at jenniedreiling@sugarnstems.com or here is the link to her website: http://www.sugarnstems.com/

Details:  I used my Cricut cartridge “Classic Disney” for the “Alice” cutouts and the pictures in the frames I printed for free off good old “Pinterest”.  I found the moss in rolls (18″x48″) at Hobby Lobby & Joanne’s (a bit cheaper at Joanne’s).  Also got the checkered fabric from Joanne’s.  The glass bottles, the moss rocks and the butterflies were purchased at the “Dollar Store”.  The cute little “Thank You” envelopes, I found at Hobby Lobby and I put a tea bag and heart shaped sugar cube in each one.  Recognize the wood circles?  More tomorrow.

A bigggg thank you to my mom, friends & bridesmaids who helped!!

Excavation – Done!

The weekend was busy around the Farmhouse.  The Mini-Ex was delivered on Friday.  Chance & my neighbor, Bob excavated the area for the footer and stem wall on Saturday.  Then on Sunday Manny & Chance built the forms to pour the footer.  We’re hoping to pour the footer this week! Oh, and did I mention Jason, Tara & baby Belle moved in with me for a few days!!  They’re moving to the country and they’re in between closing on their old house and closing on their new house.  Love having them around! More on their move later 😉

Things Are Happening!

Busy weekend on my addition.  Sun was shining and we brought in the big toys.  Had some guys remove these huge concrete chunks out in front of the future “garden area” next to my barn.  The previous owners had what was probably an old drive way chopped up into huge concrete chunks.  The space covered about 14′ by 20′ and was just an eye sore.  Chance found some guys on Craigslist to remove and haul it away.  They brought their bobcat and made it look sooo easy.  Then they demo’d the back porch steps which was a feat in itself, concrete from the 50’s was much harder than it is today! Tomorrow pics of the Mini-Ex 😉

Got Your Hat?

Standard

I’m hosting my daughter’s Bridal Shower in 10 days and she asked me for a “Mad Hatter Tea Party”.  Nothing simple for my girl, LOL!  Seriously the pressure is on.  Anywhooo, she wants everyone to wear a hat, fun or pretty it doesn’t matter.  I bought the hat & flowers at Joanne Fabric’s but I wanted something fun.  I was at Walmart and came across this cute flamingo in the toy department!!  Grabbed my trusty hot glue glun and voila!  Hope that flamingo stays on (it’s a tad “side” heavy) lol. 😉

A Break in the Weather

PeonyI finally got something planted!! I had a peony bush at my other house so I felt fairly confident that I could keep another one alive.  I bought this one at Home Depot.  I’ve never seen a peony this color and it’s just gorgeous – so vibrant! I planted it on the corner of my barn so I could see it all the time!  I don’t have any border stuff yet so I used some of my broken up concrete, lol.

My Garden Room

While I’ve been waiting for the rain to stop, I hired a friend of mine to help me out in the barn.  In the back corner of the barn there is a room that the previous family keep their dog in.  The room is about 8ft x 11ft and it was in baddddd condition.  The cardboard ceiling was falling down along with some insulation – the cardboard walls were falling down and the 2 metal walls were covered in dried on mud.  The “before” pictures are actually after I cleaned it up, I was so grossed out going in there!  Seriously it was a mess!  There is an interior entrance to the room as well as an exterior entrance.  The exterior entrance/exit door leads into the side yard of the barn that they also used for the dog, so I decided because of it’s access that room would be the perfect place for my “Garden Room”.  Bob came over and hung drywall and pegboard for me and that alone made a huge improvement!  Of course I plan on bringing the “cute” factor in but right now I’m waiting on getting power into the room for plugs and a light.  I did paint the interior door entrance and love it!  More work to do 😉
