Colander Light Fixture

Standard

I decided to move the light fixture I had in my pantry to over my little Coffee Corner, hence, I needed a new light fixture for my pantry.  I bought this Pioneer Woman Large Colander for $10 at Walmart.  Then I went to Lowe’s and bought this ceramic light socket kit for about $8.

Then I drilled a hole in the center with a universal drill bit.

Added the light socket kit. Ok, technically my electrician added the light socket! Thank, Hep!

Then spray painted the chrome rims on the colander with Rust-Oleum Metallic Antique Brass.  The knobs I added to the cabinets are antique brass and I didn’t like the shiny chrome.  I also spray painted the chain (which I already had) and the ceiling plate (forgot to take a pic).  The ceiling plate kit and pieces cost about another $15.

Ta daa!

Love it! So cute for a pantry light and only cost about $35!

The Barn in Castle Rock

Standard

I spent the day Saturday with my daughter-in-law, Tara, my Belle & my girlfriend Tammy.  Tammy lives in Castle Rock which is where The Barn is located. It’s a combination of antiques, collectibles and vintage finds.  I just love that place and knew Tara would too.  We had a great day of shopping and lunch at The Old Stone Church in Castle Rock.  We shopped til we dropped – poor little Belley! She was a trooper!

The Never Ending List

Standard

I finished my chalkboard with my Spring/Summer 2017 To Do List!  I listed refresh the garden beds but forgot to list “plant the garden beds” lol.  I bought some “Bistro Chalkboard Markers” at Joanne’s.  I love the “bullet” tips and these fluorescent colors are so fun!  There are a ton more things I hope to get done this summer that I didn’t get on the list.  We’ll see how everything goes.  Happy Friday!

Rustic Chalkboard

Standard

I’ve been wanting a chalkboard to put my “to do” lists on so that I have it right in front of my face.  I bought the chalkboard at Hobby Lobby it was just $7.50 (50% off ).  Then my grand plan was to put it in a picture frame because I wanted it more “chunky”.  Well the chalkboard is 23″x35″ and picture frames are 24″x36″ so the chalkboard was to small to attach to a frame.  I went to Home Depot and bought some 1/2″ quarter round trim for about $7 (16 ft.).

I miter cut the 1/2″ quarter round and used my finish nailer and some wood glue to attach the trim to the chalkboard frame.

Then I painted the chalkboard frame and trim a semi-gloss white and used the finish nailer to attach the chalkboard to the rustic wood frame $25 (I bought it at Hobby Lobby, also 50% off ).

So for about $40 I have exactly what I wanted & I love it.  Now I just have to add my “to do” list to it, first off will be Spring/Summer 2017!

Gingham Knobs

Standard

I finally got my gingham cabinet knobs on in my new Pantry – so cute!  I found them at Hobby Lobby and they’re 1/2 off this week, here’s a link: http://tinyurl.com/zxxv4dd.  Many more things to do in the pantry . . . paint bottom cabinets, paint ceiling, change light fixture, finish bead board, re-do flooring!  Take a breath (talking to myself), one step at a time!

Phase II – Wine Update

Standard

img_2011

Phase II begins, BUT first Maurene & I need to do a taste test! LOL  It actually wasn’t bad – a little fruity and a little thin/watery.  Maurene said it will change so much in the next phase.

Phase II begins with siphoning it out of the first stage fermentation bucket and into the “carboy” for 2nd stage fermentation.  Totally looks & smells like wine, LOL.

Time to add the “Malolactic Acid” & the “Oak Spiral”.   The Malolactic will convert the tart-tasting malic acid, naturally present in grape must, to softer-tasting lactic acid. (I clipped that last sentence from Wikipedia, obviously.)  And the oak spiral will add some flavor.

Ready for Phase II fermentation!  Bubbler thing in – blanket on – 30 more days til Phase III.

So This Just Happened!

20170224_122223_1487964477556Mia and I were here at work when Pastor Kim came into the office.  He was marrying a young couple who needed a couple witnesses.  Wow, I’ve never been an official witness before, you know – signing the marriage certificate and all!  Was so sweet – we were all crying, lol.  Congrats to Tim & Brittany.
