“SOMETIMES YOUR ONLY TRANSPORATION IS A LEAP OF FAITH.”
by Margaret Shepard
Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do no matter what the circumstances may be. My very, dear, sweet, friend, Gloria Sauer Ballard passed away yesterday, wayyy too young. It’s hard to wrap your head around something like this, even when you know it’s coming. She has been battling stomach cancer for almost a year now. I can still remember getting that phone call last March that she was sick. She is the kindest soul that you’d ever want to meet.
We became friends back in high school and have remained friends after all these years. What great “girlfriend” memories I have with her, concerts, boyfriends, cheerleading, football games and her & I drumming on the back of the couch at Steve’s house to “Fleetwood Mac” – LOL those were the days! She is one of those friends that no matter how far away you lived or how much time passed since you saw her last, whenever you got together it always felt like you JUST saw her.
With all she had going on she still took the time to send me a birthday card last October. When I called to thank her she just said “ahhhhhh sweetie of course” (always thinking of others). Gloria was a special soul and lived her life full of tenderness, strength and grace.
Dear Gloria – I will surely miss you and your sweet ways. You have been a friend that I will always cherish and think of often. I will do my best to keep in touch with your dear daughters. Until we see each other again and we will, I love you! Toodles
Yes, I may lose some of you after you read this, but the truth is I am a “Twilight” fan. One of my girlfriends & I finally had a chance to go to the movies this weekend and we saw the last installment of the Twilight series called “Breaking Dawn”. “Twilight” is a series of books written by Stephanie Meyer. Women of all ages just went bonkers over the books and hence the movies starting coming out in 2008. When “Twilight”, was released on DVD March 2009 it became the most purchased DVD of the year.
My daughter became addicted to these books and the drama between Edward, Bella & Jacob. When the first movie came out Amie had seen it SEVERAL times and she convinced me to go see it with her one more time. I hadn’t seen the movie yet or read any of the books but was curious as to what all the fuss was about. Well I was hooked. Who doesn’t love an epic love story between a human (Bella Swan) and a vampire (Edward Cullen) – LOL. I grew up watching “Dark Shadows” (yes I’m that old) when I was a kid, which was nothing like this story. I was totally sucked in (get it -LOL) to the story line and the special effects.
The love story between Bella & Edward was typical – girl falls in love with the bad boy – the guy no one likes – but he treats her with respect, tenderness and wants to protect her . . . what girl doesn’t want that??? And did I mention Edward “sparkles”?? If he is out in the sunlight his skin sparkles like glitter!! Now, for a girl who loves bling (me) can you blame me for getting hooked on the vampire??? LOL

I had a bag of those mini carrots in my fridge and came across this recipe on . . . . . wait for it . . . . . Pinterest – LOL. Super simple and I’m not much of a veggie girl but these were pretty good – especially with my mashed potatoes and […]
So in my attempt to eat healthier I found this recipe on the internet (no not Pinterest). I still have a need for a cookie now and then, or everyday! I quit buying cookies from the grocery store some time ago. I decided that if I wanted cookies I’d have to make them. I found this cookie recipe and it will blow you away. It’s not sugary, it’s totally healthy, full of protein and actually taste like you took a Spice Cake mix and added chocolate chips & walnuts to it. You MUST try this sometime, you will be presently surprised! I love it when I’m pleasantly surprised . . LOL

Beat till well combined. Add dry ingredients, beat till smooth. Stir in chips & nuts. Batter is a bit gooey. Drop by teaspoonful on greased cookie sheet (I used parchment paper). Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool & enjoy!!
I picked up my jar at Hobby Lobby. Decided to go with the 64 oz. wide mouth mason jar, and it’s pretty big . . . feeling optimistic about 2013 and the wide mouth allows me to stick my hand in there to dig out alllllll of my blessings at the end of the year. That’s the good thing about the new year, there’s always a renewed sense of optimism. So my jar is ready!!!!! Is yours???
I haven’t had a chance to check in for awhile. All is good. I had a follow-up appointment this week with my radiation oncologist and everything looks great. I’ll just need to check in with him again in a year. Working on pulling my “Heart & Breast Health” event together. If you are local and you know anyone that needs a mammogram and she doesn’t have health insurance, I still have a few open appointments for Feb. 2nd.
The Broncos are playing in the playoffs this Saturday and we’re all excited. Tomorrow is Denver’s “Wear Orange Day” . . . . . . I have to say, watching football is wayyyy more fun when you have a team to “root” for. Last year we had Tebow and that was a ton of fun . . . now we have Peyton and he is just phenomenal!! He is like the Maestro of the Bronco Symphony and is so much fun to watch. Peyton is “water cooler” talk and we are all excited. I’m only hoping for some time this weekend to get my stinkin’ Christmas stuff put away!! Seriously my tree is still decorated . . . not lit . . . but still decorated!
I’m looking forward to this year. January always brings a sense of “new” . . . “second chances” . . . “do-overs” . . . 365 days to do it different . . . try something new . . . and yes . . . decorate another room in my house! Yes I’m hoping to have some before and after pics of my bedroom redo, just don’t hold your breath, LOL.
For all of my “local” followers . . . Please “Save the Date” for Saturday, February 2, 2013. After my experience with Breast Cancer last summer I felt God prompting me to do something, there was so much I didn’t know. He opened the doors and I’ve walked through them . . . . it’s called the “Heart & Breast Health Event – Empowering Women with Knowlege”. February is Heart Health Month so we thought we’d tie the two together. From 10am-12pm there will be speakers from St. Joseph’s Hospital here to talk to us and from 9am-2pm we will have the “Mammogram Mobile Van” here offering a FREE Mammogram to women without insurance. The event is being held at Crossroads Church – Northglenn Campus. You must register for both events. Please come & invite a friend . . . you can call me at work 303-962-5698 or sign up online at crossroadsabc.com, just click on the scrolling artwork “iheartyou”!!
I found this idea on “Pinterest” (of course . . ).
Start the year with an empty jar and fill it with notes about good things that happen. I always “think” I’ll remember everything, but seriously after turning 50ish . . . good luck with that! Then on the next New Year’s Eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened that year. Good way to keep things in perspective.
Cute gift idea and you still have time to give them out . . . add a cute little ribbon and tag (because it’s all about the presentation – LOL)!
