Rock is Done!

Standard

I’m so happy this rock is done!  It’s hard for me to do anything outside when it’s 95 degrees!  There is a landscape place about a mile from my house, it’s called Storjohann Trucking & Landscape Materials –  http://storjohanntrucking.com .  Their prices are really good, you just pull your truck in and they’ll load it up for you.  This is the same rock I’m going to use for my fire pit area.  It’s 3/4″ granite and I bought about 3 tons for $28 per ton.  I probably have 1/2 ton left over to start the fire pit area.  I covered the ground in the garden for about $70 – it’s approx. 384 sq. ft of space and 2-3 inches deep.  I am in total heaven because it is soooo nice to be watering the garden, dragging the hose around on rock instead of dirt!!  Thank you Paul & Nancy for your help.  😉

My seed bed is coming alive!  I’m so excited .  . . the beets aren’t doing so well yet but everything else is looking good.  On the right side – 3 rows of lettuce, then going toward the left – one row of radishes, then one row of carrots, then the beets.

My FIRST Home Grown Tomato!

Standard

IMG_1342Finally!!!  My very first home grown tomato!  I was so excited when I picked this baby off the vine yesterday and let me just say . . . there is NOTHING like the taste of a fresh, home grown tomato!  It made a most wonderful tomato sandwich – YUM!

Deck is Built

Standard

Yahoo!  My deck is done, 10’x19′.  The guys built the whole thing on Sunday and it’s perfectly level with the concrete!  I picked out a stain color yesterday and planning on staining it this weekend.  Love it!

Concrete is Poured

The concrete truck came Friday afternoon just as a storm was coming in!  It blew through in about 20 min but came with huge winds and rain.  Crazy Colorado weather.  The guys just worked through it.  The kitchen pad got extended, the pad for the garbage cans got poured and the pylons for the deck were filled.  😉

More Concrete

Standard

Have I mentioned how much I like concrete! LOL   I’ve been working on some ideas for my backyard, like adding a ground level deck.  My son suggested I extend my “kitchen pad” which I decided was a fabulous idea.  So I called “my guys” (they did the construction on my addition).  The current “kitchen pad” is 8’x10′ and I’m extending it another 8’x10′ in concrete and adding a small pad to the side of the house for my garbage cans.  The holes in the ground have those tubes in them to pour concrete pylons which will support my 10’x19′ ground level deck.  Concrete is coming today and the guys will build the deck this weekend!  So excited!

Pantry Progress

Standard

Jason and I really like “Bud’s Warehouse”.  It’s a place where people take their old cabinets/doors/windows and also a place where contractors drop off excess materials they don’t use.  I was looking for some old cabinets to put in my pantry (old mudroom) and he was looking for cabinets for his garage.  A couple of weeks ago we went to Bud’s and we both scored!  I bought a 36″ base cabinet, a 30″ base cabinet and an 8′ countertop for $100!!  Jason came over last Friday and put the cabinets and countertop in for me!  What a difference.  You can still see the water lines in the wall from the old washer connection, those are coming out this week.  At some point this whole room will be painted along with these ugly cabinets and a new vinyl floor, but for now it works!  The red gingham knobs on the base cabinets are mine, I just had to add some kinda cuteness.  Thanks Jason! xoxo

Pumpkin Update!

Standard

Yahooooo!  It’s almost been a month since I put my pumpkin seedlings in the ground and look at them now!!!  This is my first bloom and I have 3 more just like it!!  Yesssss!

Seed Bed Done!

Standard

IMG_1298I finally planted my “seed” bed this past weekend.  Beets, Radishes, Rainbow Carrots and 3 types of Lettuce.  Two of the lettuce packets say “30 day maturity” soooo hopefully fresh salads are coming my way, along with the radishes.  The rainbow carrots and the beets won’t be ready till mid September.  I tied some string around popsicle sticks and placed them at both ends of the bed so I could plant in a straight line and remember where to concentrate my watering. 😉
