Love These Jeans!!

Standard

jeansDuring my trip to California this summer I found my “dream” jeans!!  I’ve been wanting a pair of skinny jeans to wear with my flats or boots.  Sherry & I were shopping at HomeGoods/TJMaxx in Reno and I found a pair by Nine West from their “Vintage America Collection”.  Oh my word – they are so soft, comfortable and stretchy.  They fit fabulously and they fit just below the waist with a “regular” zipper – not those 3″ zippers, LOL!!  They looked so cute with my flats this summer & my boots for this winter.  Couldn’t find another pair for the life of me . . . so I went to the internet!  I found a website called herbergers.com and they had them . . . not only in stock but 25% off & FREE shipping!! Came in the mail today!! Yahooooo!

Butternut Squash Soup

I asked my daughter for an immersion blender for my birthday last month because I’ve been wanting to make soup (thanks Amie).  So my first attempt is the following recipe and I must say it was pretty good & very simple.  I wasn’t even sure what a butternut squash looked like so I had to “google” it to know what to search for at the store, LOL.  I’ve never used an immersion blender before so I wasn’t sure how good it would puree the big chunks of apple & squash.  It was amazing – seriously you all need one of these babies!! Using this recipe the consistency came out similar to applesauce which I didn’t mind, however, I might had a bit more creme next time? But it was yummy.  Cute soup bowls (from HomeGoods), thanks mom!!

Butternut Squash Soup

3 lb butternut squash
1 med. onion – diced
2 cloves minced garlic
1 or 2 apples – peeled, cored & chopped (I used granny smith & gala)
1 quart Chicken Stock
1/2 cup cream
Salt & Cayenne to taste

Cut squash in half & scoop out seeds. Lay skin side down on foil and bake at 375 degrees for an hour or until soft.  When cool, scoop out & put in bowl.  In pot add 1 TBL of butter and saute onion until golden over medium heat, about 10 minutes.  Add 2 cloves minced garlic, stir 1 minute.  Add apple chunks and chicken stock. Turn heat up to high until it comes to a slight boil, turn down to low & simmer 15 minutes.  Add squash, simmer 20 minutes.  Turn off heat, add creme.  Now’s the fun – use your immersion blender till smooth.  Add salt & cayenne – garnish with a bit of sour cream.

Country & Cookies!

Standard

While watching the CMA’s last night – which were terrific – I found these fabulous new cookies.  A friend at work brought them home from her trip to the Netherlands.  They are wonderful, especially with coffee or tea.  I found them at our local grocery store and you must try them!! A waffle cookie with caramel in the middle – yum! The Gevalia Mocha k-cups are pretty good too! The k-cups are a bit expensive so I think next time I’ll make my own Mocha Latte by adding my own hot chocolate to my coffee mug before the coffee k-cup brews.  Congrats to George Strait – Entertainer of the Year (so handsome)!!! andddd to Blake Shelton – Male Vocalist of the Year & Album of the Year and Miranda Lambert – Female Vocalist of the Year!!!

My 1st “Grammy” Purchase!

Standard

diapersSooooo, I’ve been afraid to give in to my “grammy” desires to buy every thing insight.  So I thought for nowwwww I’d start buying diapers and stocking up on them so the kids would have them when it was time.  Baby Benson is due May 17, 2014 and we should find out around Christmas time if “we’re” having a boy or a girl!!! I still can’t believe it!! There will be NOOOO holding me back from “grammy” purchases once I know, pink or blue!! LOL

Kitchen Trinkets

Standard

kitchenI’ve decided to put my kitchen re-do off until after Christmas.  In just 3 weeks it will be Thanksgiving which means that I’ll be putting up my Christmas decorations.  So I’ll probably collect a few more trinkets for my kitchen re-do and will keep you posted.  Here are some of my recent purchases. I love my “Farmer’s Market” sign – the big black one in the back & I love my galvanized bucket!! I’ll use the “tree farm” side for Christmas and keep the pine cones in it . . . for the kitchen, I’ll turn it around (no printing on the opposite side) and probably put a bunch of apples in it? Most of my trinkets were purchased at Home Goods but the 2 white lanterns I found “marked down” this summer at Hobby Lobby!

Oh my word!! Love these tennies!!!  I first found a pic of them on “Pinterest”.  The link on pinterest took me to “Realtree” but they were sold out.  I was reading some of the comments when I came across a phone number to “Realtree”.  The message said they were sold out of their first 2 shipments but you could pre-order for the upcoming shipping in October, so I left a message with my number.  Olivia is the woman whose number it was at Realtree and she actually called me back! Excellent customer service!! I ordered them the end of September and they came today!! Yahooo, toooo cute & soooo comfortable!

Texas Trip

I met Stan earlier this year when he was coming through the Denver area and we’ve remained friends.  He’s currently living in the Austin area of Texas and he’d invited me to come down for his family reunion.  So I did, always love going somewhere I’ve never been and I’d never been to Texas.  We stayed at his mom’s house (Wanda & Mac) and then went to the reunion on Sunday at his sister’s house (Bev & Rick).  Stan is Miranda Lambert’s uncle (Stan’s sister is Miranda’s mom) so it was great to meet her family.  Miranda was in California over the weekend and wasn’t able to come.  Wanda & Mac were a kick and Stan’s sister, Bev is just a hoot.  I loved Bev’s home – it’s an big old farmhouse with a big front porch and all original wood floors – I was totally in love with it.  “Roadie” is the little dog in the pic.  Rick had found him on the side of the road while on a hunting trip.  The little white house is “The House That Built Me” and is the actual home that Miranda’s song is about – it is where they lived when they had fallen on hard times when she was young.  It’s actually down the road from where they live now.  Wanted to share a few of my pics with you all.  It was a great time and what an experience!
