IMG_1210During our “Welcome Home Matthew” party last weekend, Matthew presented us with these flags and certificates.  He had arranged that each of us would have an American Flag that was flown during a mission on his recent deployment.  Very cool and very special!!  There’s a quote by John F. Kennedy on the bottom of the certificate:

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty.”

Thank Matthew for your service in the Air Force!!

FullSizeRenderSoooo this happened last night!  I have my pumpkin seedlings on a plastic lid to a tub – just easier to carry.  I normally set the pumpkin seedlings outside when I leave for work in the morning and bring them in at night.  After watering everything last night I brought the pumpkins inside and set them on my mudroom counter, turned to shut the door behind me and when I turned back I saw it!!  That little toad jumped off that plastic lid and onto my counter.  I have to say . . . I was totally “that” girl – “that” city girl who was having a coronary!!  Listen, I have caught/killed spiders that would curl your toes and I’ve seen a few of these toads “outside” and they did make me jump a time or two buttttt in my house?!  Oh mmmm geeeeee – I didn’t scream but I was on high alert, lol.  There was no stickin’ way I was catching that thing – so I did the next best thing – I called my neighbor!  Thank goodness he was home!  I didn’t want to startle that little toad because I was afraid he’d hop behind the dryer so I kept my distance and waited for Bob to come over.  Lol, he was laughing his head off!  Yeah, yeah, I know, seriously Ronda it’s like a baby toad – but I couldn’t help myself I was a tad freaked out! He’s now back outside, safe & sound.  LOL  😉

Amie hosted her first family party welcoming Matthew home.  She did a great job and it was fun having the Benson/Bayless families together.  Good food, fun cornhole and great company! So happy Matthew’s home safe and sound!

Ok, I’m so tickled!!!! My pumpkin seeds are hatching!!!  I took these pics this morning and it’s been 10 days since I planted them.  I’m amazed at that second pic – actually seeing the plant coming out of the seed – like it’s shedding the seed.  I dooooo realize we (me and my pumpkins) have a long way to go but seriously, the fact that they actually hatched is a pretty big deal!  #1 I bought those seed packets last year and didn’t realize they actually have an expiration date on them – #2 I’ve never planted seeds before and #3 It hasn’t been that consistently great sunny warm weather yet.  If anyone has any pumpkin patch wisdom to pass along, please do.  I’m wondering about how many pumpkins come off a single plant . . . I planted 3 seeds in each container – should I plant them all??  🙂

Pumpkin Patch Update

Standard

I worked on my Pumpkin Patch last week and got the entrance finished.  Weeded, stone, mulched and planted 4 Lavender plants.  I’m hoping the Lavender will draw bees for pollination and if the Lavender does well maybe I’ll dry some for a Christmas project!?  I have to wait a bit longer for the pressure treated posts to dry before I can paint the whole thing and I’m choppin’ at the bit to paint it.  Hoping for lots of pumpkins this fall, because you need pumpkins for a “Harvest Party” and yes there will be a “Harvest Party”! 😉

It’s Timeeeeeeeeee . . .

This little drink will bring a smile to your face. Just thinking about it gets me excited! LOL  . . . We’re going to have temps in the 80’s this weekend and I just plan on working in the yard the whole entire weekend (until I need a nap).  Mixed with a little sugar, a little milk, a little 1/2 & 1/2 and you will be grinning from ear to ear.  I make a smaller batch of Ree Drummond’s version of Ice Coffee.  I make it every summer and it’s the best!  I am not a coffee connoisseur so I just buy wants on sale:

1 & 1/4 cup of your favorite coffee grounds to 2 quarts water.  I steep it in the fridge overnight or I make a batch before I leave for work and let it steep all day.  Strain through cheese-cloth and it’s ready to go.

You will not regret it!! Enjoy!!

IMG_1157Woohoo!!  It’s going to be a sunny filled weekend – finally!!  This was one of my Christmas gifts from Amie & Matthew and I’ll be putting it to good use this weekend.  Just found some great plants at Lowe’s!! (yes, those are tomato plants in the background and yes my back door is orange – it’s called “Acapulco Sunrise” !) 😉

Pumpkin Seeds Started

Standard

So, here we go.  I’ve never planted pumpkins before.  I’ve read everything I could find, started them indoors & spoke nicely to them when I set them in their little dirt cups! I have the “Halloween Blend” orange and white & also a pack of “Jack-O-Lantern” seeds.  Pumpkin prayers welcomed!! LOL

Thank YOU Jasoni

My son and grandkids came over yesterday (Tara was at an Antique Fair).  He put up my Pumpkin Patch Fence and started my cattle panels on the garden wall.  And just in time – it’s pouring down rain today.  I’ll paint the pumpkin patch fence white once the wood drys out, hang a cute little sign and maybe some hanging flowers on the posts.  Thank you, thank you, thank you son, I LOVE IT!! xoxoxo
