I have seen some odd stuff living at my little farmhouse and this was another one. I was watering over the weekend and noticed this thing that looked like a moth but acted like a hummingbird. It was crazy looking and I could see it plain as day collecting nectar from my petunias. I mean it was totally addicted to this pot of petunias so I was able to get this pics. I immediately sent the pics to my daughter-in-law because she knows everything about bugs and animals and gardening! She knew right off the bat that it was a moth. I never knew there was a moth that collected nectar. Way to go Tara!!! You were right! It’s a White-lined Sphinx!

FALL Porch Challenge!
Ok, are you ready for a new “Challenge” (remember the Coffee Bar Challenge) – Let’s do a FALL Porch!! It doesn’t HAVE to be a porch but somewhere outside, front porch, back porch, sitting area, any outdoor fall vignette will work! We’ll all have 6 weekends to prepare. Once you have your “Fall Vignette” ready, email your pic to: cottagecharms@msn.com. I’ll take entries through Sunday, October 16th! To give enough time for voting I’ll announce the winner on Monday, October 24th AND this time you’ll win a $10 gift card to Starbucks!! I thought a little incentive would be exciting – who doesn’t love a Pumpkin Latte!!?? Ready, set go!!!
Good Times This Weekend
They’re Turning Orange!
When my pumpkins first starting growing they look just like watermelons – very green. They started turning orange a couple weeks ago. I took this picture this morning. I also planted some white pumpkins and they kinda look like honey dew melons so I’m hoping they’ll get a bit more white. Well Happy Labor Day weekend and bring on FALL!!
Just Like I Imagined
When I was planning how I would set up my mudroom, I envisioned me coming in from my garden and washing my vegetables in my farmhouse sink! And so it has happened. There has been so much to do (and still more to do) that it’s hard for me to take a minute to really appreciate how much I have accomplished. When I brought in some lettuce and radishes last night I remembered my vision for my mudroom and it just made me smile. I can remember my realtor and friend Laura Ruch saying to me as we were going through the process of purchasing the property, “are you sure you want to buy this?” and I just laughed and told her “yes! I can just see it in my head, how it will look”, she laughed and said “I know you have a vision, I just can’t see it” and we both started laughing. It is an awesome thing to have a vision in your head and then be able to see in unfold in front of you. I am truly blessed!
Thanks again Sherry for hauling your old farmhouse sink from California to Colorado last year – I love it!
More F.U.N. in Cali
I stayed with my brother and Sally last Friday night and got to see my nephews and their kids. I just wish I would have remembered to take a pic with my cousin Marsha and my two uncles I also got to visit with.
F.U.N. in Cali – 40th Reunion
I was in California last week for my 40th Napa High School Reunion. Oh my word, so much fun! So great to see my friends from years ago. My brother Randy, who graduated a year after me came with his girlfriend, Sally who graduated the year after him. They had a photo booth at the reunion, hence the weird glasses and boas. Caught up with old friends, Kevin & Robert. We had so much fun hanging out together, right Randy!? LOL

Backyard Progress
I’m making some progress in the backyard. You all know that I added my deck and another concrete pad, now I’ve added some mulch and mapped out where I want to put my fire pit. Taking some time off next week but when I get back I’ll be at it again. I need to dig up/find the septic lids again. Before I moved in, shortly after I took that first picture, the previous owner buried the lids. So I’ll need to locate them and probably buy some risers so they are accessible and at ground level, then more rock. Slowly but surely!
