“It’s a Dot” . . . Update

Standard

So radiation treatments are all done. Today I met (again) with Dr. D (my medical oncologist) to discuss oral medication. Because the “Dot” they removed had estrogen receptors I can take an oral medication to not “fuel” any hidden cells throughout my body. Estrogen can feed breast cancer cells (which are not limited to the breast) that have estrogen receptors. The medication is called Arimidex (Marsha I can see you jumping on your computer 😉 ) and it helps block the estrogen my body normally makes.  My first questions was, “sooo does that mean I’m going to grow facial hair?”.  Dr. D just laughed (I’m sure he thinks I’m crazy).

Breast cancer patients have, in the past, been treated with Tamoxifen. Arimidex has much lower sides effects which can include mood swings (uh-oh), hot flashes (seriously!) and maybe some aches and pains in the morning. Dr. D told me those are even rare. So starting tomorrow I will be taking this pill once a day for the next 5 years. I’m feeling great and have had excellent healing from the radiation treatments (thank you coconut oil!). At this point I will just need to do some follow ups with everyone in about 3 months. I still have some thoughts about this experience that I will share with you later down the road.

SOOOOOOOO thank you Jesus! It’s time to move forward with my life and I’m looking forward to seeing what God has for me around the bend.

The “Trifecta” for a Cold

Standard

Sooooo,  Saturday was my birthday and for the last 5 days I’ve had a horrendous cold & pretty much been cooped up at home. I think “possibly” the radiation treatments depleted my immune system & it wasn’t working at its normal effectiveness (which is normally pretty darn good).  This cold hit me like a ton of bricks. The biggest issue has been not being able to breath through my nose. Seriously, plug your nose and try having a conversation or try eating. It just makes me crazy . . .  Afrin = Heaven!! Just sayin’ . . .

P.S. I’ve decided to postponed my birthday by one week – LOL

So Stoked!!!!!!!!!!!!

Standard

So stoked!!! Today was my last radiation treatment . . . yahooooo!!! Time to celebrate!!! I’ll send out an update on this journey next week . . . I’m a little busy partying right now! LOL

(No, that’s not me in this pic – but it could be, but then again my hair isn’t that long and I don’t like going barefoot, my legs are longer and there is no way I’d be wearing those short shorts! Anywho – Perfect pic for the occasion, found it on Pinterest – Have I mentioned how much I love Pinterest! ;))

  • ⅔ cups Granulated Sugar
  • 3  Large Egg Whites
  • ¼ teaspoons Sea Salt

“It’s a Dot” . . . Update

Standard

Yesterday was my last “full” treatment. So that ends the original 5 week treatment. NOOOOO it has NOT gone by fast – LOL. I was diagnosed just 3 months ago and it seems like it’s been 6 months.

I am sunburned and tired, but do feel pretty good, just feeling crazy emotional (like more than just crying at Hallmark commercials). I don’t feel depressed,  just, maybe a little overwhelmed, maybe everything this summer is just catching up with me, maybe since this treatment is coming to a close it’s kind of back in my face again and moving to the next treatment (so if we talk over the phone or in person – don’t take it personally if I start crying . . LOL). I’ll have to meet with the medical oncologist to discuss an oral medication. I’m thinking my body is just a little tired, physically and emotionally. Ready to be done with radiation and driving downtown everyday.

Today is the first of my 5 day “boost” treatments. The “boost” treatments concentrate on the area where the lumpectomy was done. The radiation dose is different than the full treatment. This dose will be quicker and doesn’t penetrate very deep into my skin. It is concentrated to the incision location only, so the rest of my skin should start healing.

It’s the last day of “this” summer & I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Yessssssssssssssssssss!

Ready for Fall

Standard

I’ve been looking for a fall wreath to hang on my new, cute, green, front door. (I had my house painted this summer.) This picture looks a little yellowy but my door is like a “green tea green”. The wreaths have either been way too expensive or way too expensive and have ugly fake pumpkins on them. I decided to go to “Home Goods”. . .  Duhhhh . . . should have just gone there first! Found this fall wreath and added a little bit of purple to it. Have I mentioned how much I love fall – LOL! Living in Colorado you experience every season. It’s kind of like a new beginning each time the season changes!
